Reiki Symbols

Reiki is a system of healing that employs the powers of meditation to transmit healing energy of ‘Ki’ or life force to the sick person, using ‘hands’ as instruments to pass on the energy.

In Second and Master Level of Reiki you will have access to the Special Sacred Reiki Symbols and words. These are handed down from Master to Master and are used for attuning other initiates into your Reiki Linage. But more importantly they can be used for healing and protection.

Reiki Symbols are means of focusing your attention in order to connect with "specific" healing frequencies.

Many Reiki Masters consider the Reiki symbols holy and persist in the old Reiki tradition that they must be kept secret. The symbols should only be available to those who have been initiated at the Reiki 2 level.

Reiki symbols are sacred healing symbols {The symbols are in a sense sacred, which is to say worthy of respect but that is not the same as secret. The Reiki symbols were never actually secret. The characters known as Reiki Symbols are terms that are used in some esoteric Buddhist sects (Nicheren and Tien Tai, probably others) to represent certain principles of Buddhist Theory.} which enhance the flow of Life Force Energy. The Reiki symbols are like keys those open doors to higher levels of awareness (a higher mind) and manifestation. They are displayed in temples in Japan and the power symbol is used as a protective emblem. People do need to be attuned to Reiki before they can use these symbols to activate Reiki energy functions. These were not images and mandalas which were only revealed to initiates of Esoteric Buddhism. Though the use of these particular symbols to access healing energies is specific to Reiki and Reiki does not require belief or practice of any particular religion or philosophy.

You can also see them as buttons, when you press the button you automatically get a result. In my opinion one of the functions of the Reiki symbols is to instantly override the user's precognition that some things cannot be done (i.e. distance healing). The symbols trigger a belief or intention built into the symbols that helps the user to get the results intended. The different symbols also quickly connect the user to the universal life force.

Symbols in Reiki are sacred and enhance the flow of life energy. They are derived from Sanskrit but drawn in Japanese script, ‘Kanji’. Reiki symbols are Sanskrit-derived Japanese forms. Sanskrit is the mother-tongue of all other languages. It is the language of the Vedas, the oldest writings known to man. The Vedas say that Sanskrit is the language of the spirit world. The Reiki symbols are partly based on the Japanese writing system, Kanji. The symbols should be drawn or visualized as they have been taught during the Reiki 2 Attunement. As more and more people get attuned to Reiki this will mean that there can be a great number of variations between the symbols taught by different Masters. This is not really a problem as there is not a 100% right or wrong way to draw them. The Reiki symbols given to a student will work however they look as they incorporate the intention and the connection to the metaphysical energies it represents.

Dr. Usui first saw these symbols, in the form of light. These symbols have metaphysical energy and it is sent to the body, mind, soul, and the whole universe for healing. Symbols are used in Reiki to activate the Reiki energy flow. Study of these symbols opens the gates to spiritual power and awakening.

Reiki symbols are shown to the student prior to being attuned, and an imprinting takes place that links the image they are shown to the metaphysical energies the symbol represents. Then the Reiki attunement actually empowers the symbols so that they fulfill their intended purpose. This process has been created by a Divine covenant or sacred agreement between the Creator and those who have been attuned. When a Reiki Master does an attunement and shows the Reiki symbols to a student, the form of the symbol is impressed in the students mind and merges with the metaphysical energies it represents. When a Reiki practitioner draws, thinks about or visualizes a symbol it will instantly connect to the energies it represents.

The symbols have their own consciousness, and it is possible to meditate on them and receive guidance on how to use them directly from the symbols themselves. The symbols are only considered as tools. The symbols are drawn and taught somewhat differently by different Reiki teachers The differences in the form of the symbols does not seem to make a perceptible difference in the ability to connect with and use the Reiki energies. The variation is in probably mainly a difference in styles of kanji, just as there are different styles of handwriting in English, there are different ways to write kanji.

The symbols are used to help people focus to connect to Universal Energy. When you have raised your own energy frequency sufficiently you may no longer need to use the symbols to connect with and use Reiki energy. Some people make the error of assuming that the symbols embody the power of Reiki and completely rely on the symbols. They may end up almost worshipping the symbols. Symbols serve a purpose but may in some cases retard progress in rising to true proficiency. When you have developed the ability to use the symbols well enough you can connect to Universal energy directly by intention and may choose to move away from always drawing symbols and invoking the mantras mentally on every occasion. The study of the wealth of meanings of the words indicated by the kanji symbols can be very valuable for spiritual evolution. Different people have different needs and abilities when working with energies. For some people actively working with symbols is easiest and for others direct intention or Kotodama (sounds) or gesture may be easier no method is innately better than another. Traditional Japanese Reiki sources including Master Hiroshi Doi refer to the symbols and activate them by number and a name relevant to their use . I think the English translations of the terms the Japanese Teachers use is more helpful than the terms that have become common in the West they are

No. 1. Focus. = Power Symbol = Cho Ku Rei
No. 2. Harmony. = Mental Emotional = Sei He Ki
No. 3. Connection. = Distance=Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen
No. 4. Empowerment. = Master = Dai Ko Myo

Today there are many different forms of Reiki and some have incorporated their own symbols in their initiations. In "traditional" Reiki there are three Reiki symbols given during the Reiki 2 Attunement (initiation). They are: the Power symbol (Cho Ku Rei), the Mental/Emotional symbol (Sei He Ki) and the Distance symbol (Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen).

I should also probably "warn" you before you look at the symbols, that in some Esoteric Buddhist sects which consider all writing about spiritual matters to be sacred teach that being shown any of those writings will plant a seed b that will increase the probability that the person seeing them will become enlightened in the same lifetime. I am giving this information with 100% unconditional love and that is the essence of Reiki. I am already familiar with three of the meanings of these symbols as Buddhist terms. I am working with the interpretations of these terms for almost 12 years in Reiki. All Reiki Symbols Increase Healing Power and allow you to work with the various energies of the universe. I have added some information about each symbol and a visual representation of the symbols I use. And everyone can learn Reiki and become a channel of Universal Energy.

CHO KU REI- FOCUS The Power boost Symbol

This is the first Reiki symbol. Pronounced: 'Choku': the U in 'Choku' is almost mute. 'Choku' is pronounced 'choke' - but with a very slight pause in the middle: 'cho-ke'. 'Rei' is pronounced: 'ray'. Choku Rei is commonly called the 'Power Symbol'. Takata-Sensei translated Cho Ku Rei as 'put the (spiritual) power here'. The first drawing of Cho Ku Rei is in Takata Sensei's own handwriting.

Cho Ku Rei symbol can help start Reiki flowing and most practitioners use it at the beginning of a Reiki treatment. Symbol 1 can be used to increase the power/flow of Reiki, or to assist in focusing Reiki more intensely at a given location, or to a specific intent. It can also be used to seal in the energy at the end of a treatment. It is the all-purpose symbol. It can be used for various situations as a standalone symbol or in combination with any of the other Reiki symbols.

Pronunciation "choh-koo-ray"
Alias: "The Power Symbol"
Meaning: "God and Man Coming Together" or "I have the key"
The general meaning of Cho Ku Rei is: "Place the power of the universe here".
The primary use of this Symbol is to increase Reiki power. It draws Energy from around you and focuses it where you want to.
Make the sign over the client (or yourself) and say (silently) the words Cho Ku Rei 3 times.
It is the all-purpose symbol. It can be used for anything, anywhere;
* For on the spot treatments
* To cleans negative energies
* Spiritual protection
* On food, water, medicine, herbs
* In sick rooms and hospitals
* To aid manifestation
* To empower other Reiki Symbols
* To seal energies after the treatment, etc.
If you wish to use the symbol to bring Energy to yourself, reverse it.

This is the Power Symbol. It can also be used for protection. This is also known as the Earth Symbol. This symbol when used is often described as being a heavy feeling when activated, perhaps because it is used on the physical body. Reiki Energy will flow without it, but when you use it, it is believed that the energy increases significantly. This energy calls in higher universal energy and accelerates Reiki from low to high and gives greater power and focus to the energy. Power boost is used with the other energies as well as by itself during all treatments hands on or distance. This energy has been used to cleanse negative energies, to aid manifestation, to clear rooms and crystals and to charge food and water and filled with love and light. It can also be used for protection. It would be as if you had changed the bulb in a lamp from 50 watts to 500 watts. Use at the beginning of the healing session and at any other time that additional power is needed. It is geared specifically for healing within the physical body. See it as a light switch that has the intention to instantly boost your ability to channel Reiki energy. It is also used to balance the chakras, so basically this is used for physical conditions. As a Buddhist term this refers to the nature and organization of reality and to the emergence of substance from the void of potential. Cho Ku Rei

Cho Ku Rei is used to empower other Reiki symbols, to seal energies after the treatment, to cleanse and to clear crystals, to charge food, water and medicines. Draw or visualize the symbol in front of you and you will have instant access to more healing energies. Cho Ku Rei also gives the other symbols more power when they are used together.

The symbol can be used any time during a treatment but it is especially effective if it is used in the beginning of a session to empower the Reiki energy or when used at the end of a session to close the session and seal off the Reiki energies.

The Reiki Power symbol is, as I have said before, mainly a power switch but you can also assign it further uses. Remember it is always your intention that governs what happens. If you want to add new "functions" to the Power symbol then just have a clear statement and intention of what it is you want the symbol to do and it will do it for you.

Some uses:

  1. Increase the power of your healing abilities; use it as a light switch. (Draw or visualize Cho ku Rei in front of you or draw it in your hands if you want.)
  2. Increase the power of the other symbols. (Draw it before drawing the other symbols.)
  3. One can use the Power symbol to close a space around the receiver and to stop the energies received to disappear from the body. (Draw it above the body with the intention of sealing the healing process.)
  4. The Power symbol can be used to spiritually clean a room from negative energy, to leave it in light and make it a holy place. (Draw or visualize the symbols on all the walls, ceiling and floor with the intent to energize the room.)
  5. You can clean crystals and other objects from negative energies. (Draw the power symbol above or on the crystal/object with the intent of cleansing it and restoring it to its original state. Hold the object in your hands and "give" it Reiki (or send it Reiki from a distance if it is too big to hold)).
  6. Protect yourself from negative energies (from people you treat or people you meet). (Draw or visualize the Reiki Power symbol in front of you with the intent of being totally protected.) You can read more about this on my page about the "Aura".
  7. Protect yourself, your children, your spouse, your house and other things you value. (Draw Cho ku Rei directly on the object/person you want to protect with the intent to protect him/her/it from harm.) Since Reiki works on all different levels of existence it will naturally also give protection on all levels of existence.

These are just a few uses. You can use your own intuition and imagination to find other uses for the Reiki Power symbol – Cho ku Rei. There are no limits to what you can do. The power is all in your mind; let your clear intention guide the function of the symbols.

Further information:

Traditionally, Cho ku Rei is supposed to be drawn anti clockwise (from left to right). I prefer to draw it clockwise (shown above) as this seems to work better for me and it also seems more logical. There is no right or wrong way; it is your intention that decides the function so just do what feels best for you.

The horizontal line represents the Reiki source. The vertical line symbolizes the energy flow, and the spiral that touches the middle line seven times represents the seven chakras

"It is very simple, but ...remember that it is very powerful"- Takata sensei.

SEI HE KI - HARMONY The Mental and Emotional Healing Symbol

Sei He ki is the second Reiki symbol, pronounced ‘say-hay-key’. ‘Sei’ means something spiritual, holy or sacred. And ‘heki’ means calmness; composure; unconcern – thus ‘Sei He ki’ means: ‘Spiritual Composure’. It is known as the Mental-Emotional Healing Symbol. In Japanese lineages, it is commonly known as the Harmony symbol. The first drawing of Sei He Ki is in Takata Sensei’s own handwriting.

This symbol heals on the mental and emotional level in the body. It is used in the healing of emotional and mental distress. Sei He Ki specifically addresses the emotional healing process and helps release deep supressed feelings, quickly and easily.

Symbol 2 is used in the healing of mental/emotional issues, including anxiety, stress, nervousness, fear, depression, etc., and in the eliminating of addictions. It can also be used to help with the release of ‘painful memories’ or as an ‘emotional armor’.

Pronunciation: say-hay-key
Alias: The Mental/Emotional Symbol
Meaning: God and Man Coming Together or Key to the Universe
Sei He Ki has a general meaning of: "God and man become one".
It is used primary for mental/emotional healing and calming the mind. It is very good for:
* Psychic protection
* Cleansing
* In meditations to activate Kundalini
* To balance the right and left brain
* Aid for removing addictions
* For healing past traumas
* Clears emotional blockages and aligns the upper chakras.
* Remove negative energies and bad vibrations
Sei He Ki restores emotional balance and harmony.
This symbol breaks through blockages in the aura level and heals more on the higher levels of consciousness. Sei He Ki works on the subconscious and restores psychological and emotional balance and brings deep healing. The Mental/Emotional symbol brings together the "brain and the body". It helps people to bring to the surface and release the mental/emotional causes of their problems. This symbol is used for mental and emotional healing, protection, purification, clearing and balancing. It works with the cause of the disease, which is often hidden in the subconscious mind (the emotional body) and/or the conscious mind (the mental body). When the body manifests dis-ease, it is often attempting to deliver a message that there is something that needs tending, that needs attention within the mental or emotional patterns we carry. This used to purify food or water, or to clear a room of negative energy, followed by the power symbol. If, during a treatment, a person begins an emotional release, use this symbol to assist in drawing it out and clearing it. This symbol can be used to change or eliminate bad or unwanted habits like smoking cigarettes, alcoholism, overeating, etc.

Many people (even doctors) are starting to realize that many of our ailments are based on mental and emotional unbalances that we probably are not even aware of. The symbol works to focus and harmonize the subconscious with the physical side.

This symbol can be used to help with emotional and mental healing. It balances the left and right side of the brain and gives peace and harmony. It is also very effective on relationship problems. The Sei He Ki symbol can also be used on diverse problems like nervousness, fear, depression, anger, sadness etc.

Some uses:

  1. This especially helpful for healing relationship problems and the issues that stem from them.
  2. This used for any sort of emotional or mental distress such as nervousness, fear, depression, anger, sadness, etc.
  3. Can enhance one's memory, as it connects with the subconscious mind, where all memories are stored.
  4. Can be used to enhance the effectiveness of affirmations, causing them to enter more deeply into the subconscious and manifest the results you desire more quickly.
  5. The symbol can be used to help heal misuse of drugs, alcohol, smoking etc.
  6. Sei He Ki can be used to lose weight.
  7. The symbol can be used to find things that you have misplaced. (Draw the symbol in front of you and ask for help in finding xxxx. Let go of trying to find the object. The answer will soon pop up.)
  8. Sei He Ki can be used to improve your memory when reading and studying. (Draw the symbol on each page as you read it with the intent of remembering the important parts.)
  9. Add the symbol when doing healing (normal or distance) as this can help the healing process. Many physical problems have mental/emotional roots.
  10. Further information:

    The Mental/Emotional symbol, Sei He Ki, has to do with Yin and Yang and the balance between the two sides of the brain.

    The left part of the symbol represents Yang and our left side of the brain (logic, structure and linear thinking etc.) The right side of the symbol represents Yin and our right side of the brain. (Fantasy, feelings, intuition etc.) When you are facing another person and draw the symbol the left side of the symbol, i.e. the Yang part of the symbol ends up on the receiver's right side of the brain and the Yin part on the left side thereby helping to balance the two sides.

    Sei He Ki can be used to empower your affirmations. When you are trying to achieve goals, affirmations are a powerful tool. Sei He Ki works on the subconscious mind and can be used to empower your affirmations. Repeat your affirmations over again in your mind and think of the Sei He Ki.

    Sei He Ki removes negative energies and bad vibrations and can be used for psychic protection. ‘Bad vibes’ from others exist on a mental and emotional level so you can use this symbol as a psychic protection. Draw this symbol around yourself, saying, “I protect myself now with divine love and light.” Draw the symbol in front of you and in the back, below and above you and on both sides of yourself saying the name of the symbol three times each time you draw it. You will feel the protective energy build around you and any negative vibrations that come from others will be harmonized. The Cho Ku Rei and the Sei He Ki can be used together in combination for spiritual protection. This symbol is also employed as a means of meditative focus.

    You can use Reiki as a healing modality for many kinds of conditions- physical, mental and emotional but do not analyze unless you are qualified. Reiki is not a substitute for therapy, counseling or medical treatment. Reiki is complementary and enhances other forms of treatment. People with serious psychological conditions should seek other medical treatment and can use Reiki to enhance such treatment.

    Now every thought we have and emotion can cause pain in the physical body, and a lot of people’s issues are usually down to stress or emotional hurt. So by using this symbol it can help with lots of issues like depression, anxiety, weight problems and so much more. So all these can be healed with this symbol.

    "With our thoughts we shape our reality" - Shakyamuni Buddha.

    CONNECTION The Distance Healing Symbol Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen

    Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen is the third Reiki symbol. This drawing of Symbol 3 is in Takata Sensei's own handwriting. It is pronounced 'hawn-sha-zay-show-nen'. It is a combination of Japanese kanji that can mean 'no past, no present, no future'. This symbol is also called the 'Distance Symbol' or 'bridge'. One of the clearest translations of 'Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen' is actually: 'correct thought or correct mindfulness is the essence of being'.

    With the Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen, you can send Reiki to anyone or anything anywhere. As the name suggests, the 'distant' symbol is used to send Reiki at a distance - be it to people or other animals, places, events, situations; or even across the 'great illusion' that is time itself.

    Symbol 3 is used to send Reiki over time and space. This symbol is most often used in distant healings and Reiki Attunement/Initiation. It is used to heal past trauma including issues in the past life and to send Reiki to situations as yet not having manifested themselves i.e. a point in the future when you or others might need it.

    Some practitioners use Symbol 3 when they need to 'connect' with people. The 'distant' symbol may also be used as a means of assisting interaction with deity, spirits of place, or ancestral energy-patterns or spirits.

    This symbol transmits Reiki energy across time and space. Using this symbol you can send Reiki across the room, across town, to other parts of the country or anywhere in the world. Distance is no barrier. You can also use this symbol to bridge time. You can send Reiki into the "future," where it will store up like a battery, to access at the time you or others will need it. Likewise, you can send Reiki into the "past," to heal issues from earlier in this lifetime, or to past life issues that affect you or others now.

    The essential message of the symbol is "The Buddha in me greets the Buddha in you." (Another word for Buddha is "The Awakened Heart.") And so when you use this symbol you are saying "The Awakened Heart in me greets the Awakened Heart in You." And when that connection is declared and honored through your hearts, you and the recipient are in a state of Divine Union, and Reiki can be shared regardless of the physical distance between you.

    This symbol connects to the Akashic Records, the life records of each soul, and so it can be used to heal karmic patterns or tendencies that have manifested as dis-ease in the body or that have resulted in mental or emotional pain or distress.

    Pronunciation: Hanh-shah-zay-show-nen
    Alias: The Distance Symbol
    Meaning: The God (The Buddha, the Christ...) in Me Greets the God in You to Promote Enlightenment and Piece
    The symbol has a general meaning of: "No past, no present, and no future" or it can have the meaning of "The Buddha in me contacts the Buddha in you".
    This is the Distant Healing Symbol and it is used to send Reiki over distance and time (past, present, future), to anyone and anything. It is also drawn when sending a distant attunement.

    This is the Distant Healing Symbol and it is used to send Reiki over distance and time (past, present, future), to anyone and anything. It is also drawn when sending a distant attunement.

    In doing distance healing be open! Do not focus your efforts on healing a specific problem like a headache. Send the Reiki energies without limitation as they will go where they are best needed. When doing distance healing the energies will work on the receiver's subtitle body, the Chakras and the Aura, and not as much on the physical level (i.e. it can take some time before the energies seep down to the body and eases for instance pain).

    Distance healing does not take nearly as long as a hands-on treatment. You actually only need a few minutes to send distance healing. You can even set up a Reiki distance healing to automatically repeat sending energies to a person. If you want to do this I recommend that you put a time limit on the repeat (as it otherwise might continue forever) and also to renew and empower the distance healing every other day. Remember it is your intention that guides what happens!

    Some uses:

    • Send Reiki healing to people far away.
    • "Beam" Reiki to people across the room.
    • Send Reiki energies to the future to help with a specific task or be there as a support.
    • Send Reiki to the past to lift up, to understand and release trauma.

    Further information:

    Describing how I do distance healing is not really relevant. If you put 10 Reiki Masters in a room they would probably all do distance healing in a different way. Absentee healing is basically a process of visualization i.e. imagines or “sees" the person you want to send healing to and do it. You can use a photo if you have one; if not don’t worries about it just send. Sometimes I send to people I don't really know (like a name I have received in an e-mail), I only have their name and city. No problem, it is the intention of sending Reiki to this unknown person that makes it work. My advice is to let go of all you doubts, formulate a clear intention, use the Reiki symbols and send the energies!

    The form of the Distance symbols is complex and probably this is the symbol with most variations. It is a Japanese Kanji and represents the human body incorporating the chakras and the five elements. So say you know of someone who needs your help but cannot come to you then you can send a Distance Reiki Healing to them. The energy goes to where you direct it to. Your intention is what is so important. When you are sending it, it is good to visualize the person, or animal or the world if that is what you want to do.

    You could also even send it to the universe and one that some people would never think of is a loved one who has passed on to the spirit world, you can also send it to your future life or even your past life, so much really. Really anyone or anything that cannot be in your company for whatever reason. Now some people feel Oh I must ask permission, well I disagree the most important thing is your intention and what you ask the energy to do and where you are directing it to go.

    Intention has to be 100% unconditional love that’s it. So the best way to use these Reiki symbols or words is to say them to yourself 3 times in your head and use them for the better good of everyone and things on the planet and most importantly yourself. Our poor world needs a big healing as people have been destroying it too much.

    Now the energy is allowing Reiki Symbols Revealed all the time. During meditation a lot of people are being shown them. So when you learn reiki you will be able to activate these symbols, use them and help people.

    The Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen is used to heal the effects of traumas from the past and from past lives. It is a symbol of karmic release. When you heal a problem at its root or origination point often many related problems that are based from that root will resolve themselves and heal almost instantly. When used with the emotional healing symbol it can bring deep healing and transformation. Past life recall is also assisted with the use of this symbol. This symbol's deeper function is to 'make things right' and to bring one's whole being into harmony. Its effect is to help us live in the present, free of blocks and worries about the past and future. The Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen is also employed as a means of meditative focus.

    "... A cosmic energy..." - Takata sensei.

    EMPOWERMENT The Spiritual Empowerment or Master Symbol, Dai Ku Myo

    Dai Ko Myo is the fourth Reiki symbol. Dai Ko Myo is also known as the Master Symbol. It is pronounced 'dye-koe (rhyming with doe)-mayo'. The word Dai means 'Great' and Ko Myo, means 'Bright Light', 'Enlightened Nature'. As the 'Master' symbol it is the very encapsulation of the Reiki phenomenon itself. To practitioners of many Reiki styles, this symbol represents the combined energies of the symbols CKR, SHK and HSZSN, at a more subtle level. Dai Ko Myo is also of great importance in the practice of Johrei. For many practitioners, the main use of the Master Symbol is the passing of Reiki attunements to others. The master Symbol is the symbol or energy function used for activating the attunement or initiation to Reiki. Attunements make the Reiki energy permanently accessible to the new practitioner. Dai Ko Myo is also employed as a meditative focus. Empowerment, Intuition, and Spiritual connection are associated with the use of the Master Symbol. It helps you gain clarity of your true path.

    Third Degree Reiki adds the symbol Dai Ko Myo or dai ku myo (dye koo myo, (mm yoh long o) Self empowerment, Intuition,Creativity , and Spiritual connection it enables recognition and clarity about your true path. Less is known about this most powerful of the Reiki energy functions because until quite recently there have been very few people empowered to use it so it is still somewhat unexplored . It activates a powerful energy for Self Empowerment it is used for opening Spiritual connection and intuition and cellular healing .once you are attuned for this energy I recommend using it for treating yourself and others each time you activate Reiki . It is said to work at the cellular and genetic levels and is valuable for treating Migraine Headaches. Many people have found that the Reiki Attunement particularly to this Reiki tool increases the intuitive and psychic awareness that they can comfortably access.

    Pronunciation: dye-ko-me-o
    Alias: The Master Symbol
    Meaning: Great Shining Light
    It is the most powerful symbol in the Reiki group. It can be used only by Reiki Masters.
    This symbol is used to heal the soul. Since it deals with the soul and our spiritual self it heals disease and illness from the original source in the aura/energy fields.
    It helps to provide enlightenment and piece. It also allows becoming more intuitive and psychic.
    With practice this symbol brings profound life changes.
    This is the Master Symbol. Its essence is the Light of the Buddha, the Light of the Awakened Heart. It signifies expanded wisdom and clairvoyance.

    Japanese Kanji Meaning:
    Dai = Magnificent,
    Ko = Light expansion at the crown chakra,
    Myo = Clairvoyance, healing moving through the earth,
    Ko Myo = Great bright light, halo, light emanating from the enlightened one.

    Some uses:

    Empowers, purifies, and strengthens

    Addresses issues of the soul/spiritual body

    The highest level of healing

    Alternate meaning of Japanese kanji: "Great being of the Universe Shine on Me."

    Very potent and lasting clearing of room or space, draw the Dai Ko Myo at each corner of the floor and ceiling

    Alternate meaning: "great shining light."

    It is the Zen expression for one's own true nature or Buddha-nature, through which one becomes cognizant in the experience of enlightenment or satori

    Because the spiritual body is the template from which the physical body emerges, all disease comes from hiding the spiritual body, like clouds or barnacles, attaching or shading the spiritual body. Because the Dai Ko Myo cleanses and heals the spiritual body, this causes healing of the physical body

    Symbolic of our connection to God or Source because it vibrates to unconditional compassion

    This symbol is used for the healing of the soul--the level of the blueprint from which the physical body is derived. This is the energy that the Reiki master activates to do the Attunements that make the Reiki energies permanently accessible to the new practitioner. Many Reiki Masters do a non master three an attunement that activates the Dai ku myo as the spiritual intuitive energy but does not give the ability to do attunements. The Dai Ku Myo is in Buddhist teaching the representation of unlimited potential and of all spiritual teachings and natural laws of the universe All of the functions which have been added to variations of Reiki are actually contained in the Dai Ku Myo.

    Dai Ko Myo activates a powerful energy for empowerment of the self and it facilitates spiritual connection, intuition and cellular healing. The other focus of the Master Symbol is healing at the soul. Healing at the Master level is said to directly affect the higher spiritual body and leads to immense transformation. The Master Symbol is said to work at the cellular and genetic levels. This is considered to be a very sacred symbol and given the highest expressions like, "symbol for guiding spiritual awakening".

    Dai Ko Myo can be used for all purposes of Reiki in combination with the other symbols or as a stand alone symbol. The Master Symbol can be used for protection: visualize a large Dai Ko Myo bright with pure white light surrounding you.

    Many people have found that the Level 3 Reiki Attunement increases the intuitive and psychic awareness and that these can be accessed more easily. Attunement to this level often seems to initiate dramatic changes in career and lifestyle.

    "Reiki is wisdom and truth", Takata sensei.
